Doctrinal Statement

In Redemption Baptist Church, these Biblical truths are taught:

1. There is one God

There is one God (Deuteronomy 6.4), Spirit creator and sustainer of all things (John 4:24, Acts 4:24; Ne 9.6), infinite and unchanging (1 Kings 8:27, James 1:17), absolutely sovereign (Eph 1:11), sage (Rom 11:33), fair (Isaiah 45.21), holy (i) and love (1 Jn 4.8); omnipresent (Psalm 139.7-11), omniscient (Heb 4:13) and omnipotent (Job 42.2), which exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19; 2 Cor 13:13).

2. Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Mt 16:16), the second Person of the Trinity (Mt 28:19), fully God and fully man (John 1:14, Romans 9.5, Cl 2.9, 1 Tim 2.5, 1 Jn 5:20), not created (Col. 1:17), eternal (Micah 5.2; Jn 8:58), flawless (1 Jn 3.5), generated by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary (Mt 1.18-23), creator of the universe (John 1.3; Hb 1.2), sustainer of all things (Col. 1.16-17, Hebrews 1.3), savior of all who believe in Him (John 3:16), that by his death on the cross atoned for sin (Galatians 3:13), was raised on the third day (1 Cor 15.3-4) and He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father (Acts 1.9; Heb 10:12), whence will come again to establish His eternal kingdom (Heb 9:27, Rev. 11:15).

3. The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity (Mt 28:19), the divine Comforter promised (John 15:26), who convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16.8-11), which regenerates and baptizes the believer in moment of his conversion (John 3.3-6; 1 Corinthians 12:13), going to live in it permanently (1 Corinthians 6:19), sealing it as a constant property of God (Rom 8.9; Eph 1.13-14) and giving him gifts that enable the service to build up the church (1 Cor 12.4-7).

4. Gift of Tongues

The gift of tongues was the supernatural ability given by God to some believers speak of the greatness of God in another language never learned by those who received this grace (Acts 2.4-11; 1 Cor 12:30), given that such ability, since which served as a sign of impending judgment of God upon the generation that rejected the Son (1 Cor 14.21-22 - compare Deut 28.45, 46, 49), ceased to exist in the first century, as soon as the chastisement of the Lord fell on Jews in AD 70 by the hand of Titus, the Roman general, as the Lord Jesus had foretold (Luke 13.34-35).

5. Bible, the Word of God

The Bible is the Word of God, inerrant and infallible (John 10:35, Psalms 119.11), inspired by him in the original writings (2 Tim 3:16), only rule of faith and practice of the Christian (Rom 15.4), which was given to us by through holy men of God moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21), it is the indispensable instrument of the Lord not only for the salvation of the sinner (Romans 1:16, 1 Corinthians 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:15, James 1:18, 1 Rev. 1:23), but also for the growth of the believer in sanctification (Ps 119.9, John 17:17, Heb 4:12).

6. Man and Woman: God's creation

Man and woman were created by God who made them in his image and likeness (Gen. 1:27; 5.1-2; 3.9 Tg), sinless (Ecclesiastes 7:29), with a body wonderfully made (Gen. 2.7, 21-22 - see also Ps 139.14) and an immortal soul (Ecclesiastes 12.7, Matthew 10:28), giving them, then the dominion over all creation (Genesis 1:26, 29-30) and by imposing a duty to take care of it (Gen. 2:15).

7. Marriage

At the time of the creation of mankind, God established marriage (Matthew 19.4-6), the solemn act that promotes union between a man and a woman, never can occur between a believer and an unbeliever (1 Cor 7:39, 2 Cor 6.14-15 ) or between persons of the same sex (Leviticus 20:13; 1 Corinthians 6.9-10), which leads to the emergence of a new family, the right to enjoy sexual pleasure and creating a bond that only dissolves with the death of one spouse (Mt 5:32; 19.9, Luke 16:18, Romans 7.2-3; 1 Cor 7.10-11, 39, Heb 13.4).

8. Sin

Sin entered the world through a voluntary act of the first man (1 Tim 2:14) that, in Eden, disobeyed the express command of God by eating the forbidden fruit (Gen 3.6 - compare with Gen. 2.16-17). As a result, any race, represented in Adam became a sinner (Romans 3:23, 5:18). The death which is the wages of sin (Romans 6:23), came to all men (Romans 5:12), which now are separated from God (Eph 4:18), eternally lost (Mt 25:41, 46) and living according to the dictates of his own passions and vain reasoning. (Eph 2.1-3; 4.17).

9. Salvation

The provision for the salvation of the human being was made in Christ, who by his death on the cross of Calvary, satisfied the demands of God, suffering the consequences of our guilt (Mt 20:28, Gal 3:13, 1 Peter 2:24, 3:18; 1 Jo 2.2, 4.10). To rise on the third day (1 Cor 15.3-4), our Lord showed that the justice of God was fully satisfied by him on Golgotha (Rom 4:25, 1 Peter 1.3), just now that the sinner receives by faith (John 3:36, Ephesians 2.8) as only and sufficient savior (Acts 4:12, 1 Tim 2.5) in order to have forgiveness of sins (Rom 5.1; Eph 1.7) and the removal of guilt that leads to eternal condemnation (Romans 8.1).

10. Faith versus Works

Man's salvation is only by faith in Christ and not by good works (John 6.28-29, Romans 3.20-24, Gal 3:11), being certain that faith is God's gift that gives to his elect (John 6.65, Acts 11:18, Eph 2.8; Phil 1:29, 2 Peter 1.1), i.e., those whom the Lord, by his grace alone, chosen before the foundation of the world and predestined to be saved (Rom 9.14-18; Eph 1.4-5, 11) . The election took place without God saw beforehand any reason that would make them worthy of your favor predestined (Romans 5.6-8, 9.10-13). God also chose not foresee that his people would believe, since, as noted, saving faith is granted by him to the elect (John 6:37, 44, 65, Acts 13:48, Romans 8.29-30).

11. The Church

The church is the community of believers in Christ (Eph 1.1), acquired, established, protected, built and directed by him (Mt 16:18, Acts 20:28), which meets to worship the Triune God (Acts 13.1-2), sustain firmly to revealed truth (1 Tim 3:15), observing the ordinances of the Lord (baptism and supper), nurturing a loving, uplifting and pure fellowship among brethren (Acts 2.42-47) and proclaim salvation to the world (1 Peter 2.9) , all with the end goal of promoting the glory of God (Eph 3:21).

12. Supper and Baptism

The two ordinances established by Christ and should be regularly observed by the church are baptism and the supper (Mt 28.19-20, Luke 22.19-20). The first, which cannot be understood as a means of salvation (1 Cor 1.14-17), should be performed only after the individual believes (Acts 2.41-42), and is therefore unacceptable infant baptism. The correct form of baptism, in the light of the Bible, is the total immersion of a believer in water (Mark 1.9-11, John 3:23, Acts 8.36-39). As for supper, this should be distributed into two elements: the bread, which is a symbol of Christ's body, and the cup which is His blood (1 Cor 11.23-26). Such elements cannot be denied to any believer in Christ (1 Cor 11:28). We emphasize also that the Supper is a memorial in the church remembers the death of God's Son on the cross of Calvary for the remission of sins, being the superstitious belief that the body and blood of the Lord are somehow present in elements, or you can obtain eternal life attending them.

13. Angels

Angels are powerful spiritual beings, created by God to glorify Him and fulfill your orders (Ps 103.20; Isaiah 6.2-3). Such beings have as one of its functions to minister on behalf of believers (Luke 16:22, Heb 1.13-14). It is known that all these holy beings were created by God (Job 38.4-7). However, there is evidence in scripture in pre-creation, a number of them rebelled and, being now called demons, were confirmed in wickedness (2 Peter 2.4; Jude 6), while those who have kept their original state, also called angels elected, were confirmed in goodness (1 Tim 5:21). There is no hope of repentance for the demons (Heb 2:16), or the possibility of falling for the good angels, having a fixed place for the two categories in God's plan for the future (Mt 25:31, Mk 8:38, 1 Cor 6.3, Rev. 12.7 -9).

14. Satan

Satan, our adversary, is an angel who was created by God without sin and he held a position of authority over other spiritual beings (Ezekiel 28.12-15). But it happened that, moved by pride, rebelled desiring to be like God, so it was removed from its original position and destined for hell (Isaiah 14.12-15; Ez 28.15-19, Matthew 25:41, Rev. 12.9-10). His work consists, in general, to accuse, attack and try the servants of God to destroy them (Job 2.7, Acts 5.3, 1 Thess 3.5; 1 Peter 5.8-9, Rev. 12.9-10), obstructing the advance the gospel and deceive men, keeping them under his control and mastery (Mk 4:15, 2 Cor 4.4; Eph 2.1-2; 2 Tim 2:26).

15. The Plan of God

God's plan for the future includes the resurrection of believers (1 Cor 15.20-23, 1 Thessalonians 4:16), the Gathering (1 Thessalonians 4.13-18; 1 Cor 15.50-53), the emergence of the Antichrist (Daniel 7.8; 2 Thessalonians 2.3-4), the Great Tribulation (Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24.21-29, Rev. 11.2-3, 12.6, 14, 13.5), the Second Coming of Christ (Mt 24.37-44, Acts 1:11, Rev. 1.7), the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom (Revelation 20.1-6), the Last Judgment (Rev. 20.11-15) and the creation of new heavens and new earth (Revelation 21.1-8). At the end of the story, the righteous will live forever in the presence of God, while those who rejected the salvation offered by Christ will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction (Daniel 12.2-3; 2 Thessalonians 1.9, Rev. 14.9-11).
