What is Being a Christian?

Being Christian is not the son of evangelical parents. Even someone to receive a Christian education, from childhood, that, by itself, does not make him a true believer. Such a person is no more than an unbeliever with good manners.

Being Christian is not assiduous in an evangelical church. Although the believer has the obligation to attend a church, not all that are always present in the services are truly believers. In fact, there are many people who go to church just because there is a healthy environment with good friends; others still attend church services thinking that it will win the sympathy of God to deliver them from trouble. People like that, however friendly and nice they are, cannot be considered Christian.

Being a believer is not be baptized. All believers must submit to the ordinance of baptism, but the fact of someone being baptized does not mean that this person is really a Christian. Incidentally, there are many people who are baptized and who never understood and accepted the true gospel.

Who then is the true believer?

Believer is a person who, hearing or reading the gospel (Eph 1:13), concluded that it is a lost sinner, separated from God and walking to eternal perdition (Rom 3:23). He also found in the gospel that Jesus is the Son of God who came to earth in human form to die in place of the sinner (John 3:16; Phil 2:5-8, 1 Tim 1:15, Heb 2:14, 1 John 4:10), and yet certain that the third day he rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). Finally, the believer is one who before these truths, believed in Christ as your one and only savior, getting it in your life and thus it obtained the forgiveness of sin, deliverance from guilt, a new life and eternal salvation (John 3:36, 7:38, Rom 5:1, 6:4, Eph 1:7).

The definition above is well summarized. In fact, there are many other truths that could be said about the believer. Some of them are:

1. The believer is someone chosen by God before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4).

2. The believer is someone who does not belong to this world (John 15:19; 17:14-16; Gal 1:4).

3. The believer is an adopted son of God (Rom 8:15, Gal 4:4-5 Eph 1:5).

4. The believer is an heir of God (Rom 8:16-17).

5. The believer is one in whom the Holy Spirit dwells and acts (Romans 8.9-14).

6. The believer is someone who has received a new nature (2 Cor 5:17, Gal 6:15, 2 Peter 1:4).

7. The believer is one of complete apostasy saved by the power of God (John 6:39; 10:27-30, Rom 8:38-39, 1 Peter 1:5; Jd 1,24-25).

8. The believer is one who proclaims the virtues of God (1 Peter 2:9).
